"Benjamin and Simon Willard, were like the Safdie brothers of late 18thC American clockmaking. I was drawn to this clock for the whimsical animated moon painting above the clock face. Come to find out, the Willard brothers were famous for these types of flourishes, and their clocks hold great historical significance: they were among the first clocks to be made entirely within the United States. Unlike the ornate and very expensive clocks imported from Great Britain, the Willards found ways to make beautiful clocks available to a broader American public, so there you have it." - @Grier
